2005 Person of the year?

The time magazine took out its list of 2005 persons of the year. and they've got Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Bono as those persons.

I heard a lot about Bono & U2 along with Bob Geldof during the Live8 concerts this year. Also Bono has been a great activist as well as a rockist for quite a while now. so no surprise there.

Bill Gates & his microsoft has been in the business like an unmovable mountain, whether or not we like him. he's given a lot to the mankind as we know it, but what he especially gave in 2005, of that I'm not so sure.

As for Melinda Gates, frankly i didn't know much about her except that she was Bill Gates' spouse and involved in volunteering things as well. She also became one of the most powerful women of 2005 according to Forbes but that she was chosen for year 2005 persons, i can't agree.

Some of the other faces that i'd liked to have seen on the frontpage of Time magazine are Condoleezza Rice (who also happens to be the most powerful woman of the year 2005, according to Forbes), along with the Google Guys(Eric Schmidt, Sergey Brin & Larry Page) and Tony Blair.

I don't understand why they left Steve Jobs out of the picture. He has changed the world more than one time since 1975 when he and Steve Woz got the Apple II out. An industry was born: the desktop industry.

I think it's bogus. Yeah, Bono and the Gates have done some good things, but not this year more than any other year. And when Gates starts giving away money with no strings attached, then I'll cheer for him.

And as far as I can tell, Melinda Gates' job is the same as Laura Bush; smile, look pretty, do public appearances, and draw attention back to her husband.

They should have just named Bono as the Man of The Year. Bono should not have to share a title with two members of a crooked corporate computer monopoly. Down with the Bill and Melinda Gates up with Bono. Bono Rules!!!

Can't agree with you on the additional names you would have liked to see. But I agree with you on your comments on the Gates' and Bono. They have, and continue to make a difference for the better. And that's why I'm having difficulty with your additions. Are they making a difference for the better? Or are they just opportunists? (I have a problem with politicians.)
