Microsoft is Scared!!

I just heard about the new version of Firefox and tried to download it from the internet explorer. Boo! the start page has no links to Firefox! well u can say its a competitor, but still you shouldn't run away from competition!

mozilla.com looked like this in my internet explorer

and the same site looked like this in Firefox!

no doubt another major competitor opera browser didn't allow Firefox download page either! Losers...

Ubuntu is Here...

Finally this evening my packet containing Ubuntu Linux arrived. seemed like the packet had (mis)traveled to Malaysia before arriving here in nepal. not many desktop PC users are using linux over here. i'd tried a few linux distros previously, and the buzz these days is definitely with this ubuntu, which was also won the Linux Journal Reader's Choice Award. besides, even the slogan "Ubuntu - Linux for Human Beings" does sounds catchy & likable, doesn't it?

i wanted to install the new system on my computer right away but my CD-ROM has been in the junkyard lately. i might buy a new one perhaps this week... i got 5 CDs so i'm definitely gonna make few frens try this new linux in the town! actually there are two CDs in each CD case, one for the regular install and one for the try out version, that is dual install with windows. i'm definitely going for the install CD...

Yo! 2 thumbs up 4 OPEN-SOURCE!

Who Believes in Horoscopes Anyway?

One of the newspapers 'told' me yesterday that i was goin to have a great day yesterday & that i was gonna earn big bucks. duh..forget about getting money, i ended up loosing lots of money. damn.. i don't even remember how i spent so much money yesterday. this morning the horopscope again says i'm gonna earn big today. its a holiday here today & i'm stuck at my room most of the day. can't see where the money is coming from anyway....

actually who believes in horoscopes anyway? just that i can't stop myself from horoscope page of newspaper as soon as i grab it or the odd visits to astrology.com or horoscope.com doesn't mean i believe in horoscope!

Buddha is Here!!!

I saw this news about "Nepal Boy Called Reincarnation of Buddha" which goes something like this - A teenage boy has been meditating in a Nepalese jungle for six months, and thousands have flocked to see him, with some believing he is the reincarnation of Buddha...

I haven't seen this boy personally but i saw the video few days back on the TV. actually here the news about the boy has already spread like fire for quite a while, saying that he is the God, the Buddha himself..after seeing the video it was so weird. he wasn't the most charming boy that you see everyday but there was something quite intense the way he was sitting there with his eyes closed. after all you don't search for any logic behind a person being alive without food or drink for 6 straight months!

Anyway its a weird world out there!

Lost a Pen :-(

A couple of days back NHK crew were at our house to shoot for a documentary. i couldn't attend them since i was kinda busy. they'd given a pen as a gift but i however misplaced it somewhere. i even took a snap of it before it got lost..

i like collecting pens actually. i wonder how many people are into pen collection hobbies these days. it seems like all computers to me. may be we should start collecting keyboard and mice....

Just a bad Dream...or was it????

last night i had some trouble sleeping..and what more i had a nasty dream...

in dream the whole world was in war! ya everyone were fighting..i mean everyone. then out of sudden there were some loud noises from the sky. everybody looked up; and there was this gigantic rock like object falling down from the sky. there were many beings shouting from that rock. everybody stopped the war and just looked and looked..it was too late. that rock came straight ahead towards the earth and bang!! i was awake the next moment! that almost felt like real...

this morning in the papers there was an article saying that a meteor was expected to hit the earth in 2400AD or sometime like that..boy did i had a premonition or what! also it said that NASA and scientists weren't doing enough for such problems to humanity. well they should if its true! whatever good or bad life we have.. at least we deserve to live!

also i checked the national academy here for science and development, RONAST (i wonder about the jobs that they are seriously doing..coz i hear so little about them in news), and i hope that it also does something to check such threaten to mankind. actually i was watching this video yesterday of NASA on strange UFO objects(may be that had something to do with my dream), and i still am not sure whether to believe in them or not.

Online Nepal Vs In Line Nepal

The online business in nepal seems to be speeding up with old players like muncha.com and thamel.com being joined by new online shopping sites like the unicornfelt.com, creationnepal.com, ghardailo.com and nepalscraft.com. this indeed is a good news for people around the globe. and then again there are other sites like the ebay.com and amazon.com and shopping.yahoo.com that were there forever...

http://www.muncha.com

that's one side of the story. an online shopping nepal in pace with the rest of the world; then there is an in-line shopping nepal, the ones that are still having to stand in long queue for getting thier basic needs like water, food and cooking gases..such a pity that u toss a coin and see heads and tails of two different animals, one shopping online and another shopping in line...

LET THERE BE EQUALITY!

While each of the Nepalese students are busy trying to go abroad for studies, there are also the ones coming here. the School for international Training is also dedicated in providing studies and programs worldwide, including nepal. the site list the process and programs in various countries, and tries to produce globally aware professionals. quite a motto that is. check them out!

Explore more Nepal...

New Year 1126 to all!! There's so much to explore on nepal..and the good thing is that you're never done exploring. just been back from Swayambhu. its a magical scene to see the whole Kathmandu city glowing with all the Tihar lights at the night time. i just wished there were more people (there were less than 100 people i think while we were there) to see the 'matrix' like scene of the valley from the heights of Swayambhu. its...Heaven.

Now what's nepal if it were not to be the scenes, beauty & adventure. i saw this site that has some small but spectacular high quality photo collection and maps of nepal and information on trekking and other popular sites. its more like a guidebook. also can be slow over slow connection. but its worth a watch. the images are not only of popular sites in nepal but also from space satellites too! some of which are from www.eorc.jaxa.jp (which is a japanese earth research center)also there are loads of info if you're into travelling or trekking any of these places. here's the site

http://www.raonline.ch/rao_promonp00.html

Now if u really are into motorbike stuffs then there's this site called www.ridehigh.com by Himalayan Roadrunners Pvt. Ltd which arranges one of its kind motorcycle tours and expiditions to the highest places of nepal as well as bhutan, thailand and others. and its all in thier shedule section.(unfortunately the tours inside nepal seems to be postponed due to the unfavourable conditions here...which hopefully eases soon

)

let the Tihar celebrations continue..!
